Being accountable
Being part of a peer group can significantly support our accountability to achieve our goals. There are several reasons why this may be the case, and they will be unique for each of us.
For some, it is the social environment of the group which motivates us to bring behaviours which we know will help us stay committed to our goals. Very often we may find we have similar or shared goals with our peers and so holding each other accountable can be very powerful. The support and encouragement along the way keeps us moving forward.
Constructive feedback and advice from personal experience can provide guidance for areas for improvement, help to overcome obstacles or to look at something through a different lens. The camaraderie within a peer group, along with the high levels of trust, means members know that their peers are rooting for them and will provide consistent support, challenge and assistance required. There is, of course, the healthy competition to strive for excellence amongst those you admire! And seeing others making progress inspires us and fuels our determination to stay accountable.
